Some really good aspects of this film were ruined mainly by the directing. So many scenes were shrill, over-excited, the typical American style where everyone is deliriously happy and excited for far too long. No subtlety of shade, rise and fall - the film just lurched here and there and was quite difficult to follow. After about 45 minutes I was wondering if a plot would ever materialise. Well it didn't. Unless I missed it, lost in all the time changes.
One or two US films are so hyped up, luring the public in with quality actors who are in reality not important to the plot. 1917 is a good example. In Little Women, Meryll Streep, Emma Watson - it must be good! Sorry to say the film was vacuous.
