If you are an originalist who loves Alien and Aliens, this may be a big disappointment for you (it was for me). The opening scenes and the aesthetics gave me huge hope- I thought they had managed to make a fitting sequel. Unfortunately, it is derivative, Disney-fied, and dumb. The plot is unnecessarily fast, it is clumsy, and loud. It is literally about children. I had no idea that one COULD Disney-fy the Alien franchise, but here we have it. It lacks the grace, the sense of quiet, the ominous tone that characterized the first films. There are a few very cool elements- but mostly it's an unoriginal recycling of plot points and themes that comes off as an unintelligent attempt to simultaneously pander to fans of the original and to cultivate a younger audience.
