This adaptation failed to capture the heart of Mulans story. It lacked the development and evolution of characters leaving the audience with no appreciation of the magnitude of Mulans struggles. Like her internal struggle of the gender expectations of her time vs her determination to do what is right for her family. IE her just sitting on the sidelines while her father accepts the conscription notice or the missing montage of her cutting her hair, putting on her father's armor on, taking his sword and horse and seeing her take control of her emotions and seeing the determination in her eyes of what she feels she must do knowing the consequences. Also big part of the story is this battle of harden mongol Warriors vs this conscription army of farmers. The training scenes were not well done and any fighting ability was promoted to be the results of good chi.
