This story is so raw and explores the depth and complexity of human emotions in a way that I haven't seen in a very long time. Ricard Gadd does something that most of us don't have the courage to do, which is shed the cloak of shame and just lay himself bare; open to judgement which he will surely get from some. There are no victors or vanquished here, just humans.
Ultimately, I thing everyone can relate to this story. Maybe not in the same context but the way the human mind is complex and how we all do things that are detrimental to ourselves. Its not a happy ending, it just an ending in the way that life often goes for most of us. We don't suddenly wake up and are cured of our trauma. Sometimes it takes years. We make progress and we regress sometimes.
It's been a while I was so profoundly touched by a story. It deserves an Oscar nomination if you ask me.
