This is the kind of franchise movie that makes you wonder if the greatness of the previous movies was a fluke. I gave it 1 star cause there was nothing lower. How could the makers of A Quiet Place 1 + 2 make such an awful movie? It doesn't make sense. They threw out everything that viewers loved about the first 2 movies. Both Karenski & Lupita have damaged their careers (and the franchise) with this boring clunker. A Quiet Place Day One lets us know that the makers of the first 2 movies haven't a clue why audiences loved them so much. It actually diminishes my fondness for 1 + 2 movies now that I know it was just blind luck, not great story-telling. The real draws of the Quiet Place franchise are the monsters. That is why likable human characters in the first 2 movies could die without killing the franchise. But in this movie, almost everytime we see the monsters, it is in a wide angle shot of dozens of them. They removed the tension, the menace, the sense of danger, and the scary intimacy. The main characters are bland and unlikable. It's obvious they simply wanted a black female in the lead. The movie doesn't say, but from her demeanor and dress, most people will suspect she's gay. I simply cannot believe a person who likes this movie, would also like the first 2. That is how I know the 5-star reviews are shills or bots. If you haven't watched 1 or 2, save yourself 2 hours and go watch them instead of throwing away 2 hours on this crap - that will only encourage them to burden us with another like it. I'm not going to watch another Quiet Place movie till I've read the reviews and am satisfied it's nothing like this clunker.
