Great storylines, good casting. However so many errors. Last week in Cornwall we were introduced to his new female Detective Sergeant. However despite all calling her sergeant , she was in fact un the uniform of a police Inspector complete with two pips on her capulets .........everyone knows a sergeant has three stripes.
We then heard Dalgleash referring to DNA.......not in the 70s I'm afraid !
In the recent episode we saw him leaving the home of an aristocrat .....his trouser flies were undone . WOT next ?
In one scene he spoke to the black chauffeur ......" I notice your tie pin.....you served in the .Coldstream guards ? " . The driver agreed . Mmmmmm another big mistake .
The very first black guardsman was in fact a Grenadier Guardsman who didnt pass out of basic training at Pirbright until 1988 . There were no black guardsmen in the 70s.
Plus how about we have some realistic vehicles.......every vehicle we see is a sparkling highly polished mint condition collectors item. ......were there no dirty cars in the 70s .
Oh on a point of law . A police officer ( of any rank ) would not commence a murder investigation while visiting a foreign force territory ( Cornwall) . It would be handled locally.
Apart from that P D James is a brilliant writer ( pretty sure he never mentioned DNA in any of hid books of that period )
Russell ( ex Notts police and JP retired )
