TLDR: AN HONEST REVIEW FROM A REAL LIFELONG FAN
I see a bunch of 1-star reviews talking about how 5 star reviews are all paid for and allat, so here's an honest 5 star review from a lifelong die-hard transformers fan.
Tbh, if I knew how to put a 4.5 star I would put that instead of a 5 but here we are.
As far as those complaining about the continuity and what is canon and how to explain killing off a prominent character and so on and so forth: Transformers has never been stranger to new universes/canons. THIS MOVIE IS NOT THE SAME UNIVERSE/CANON AS THE LIVE ACTION MOVIES, it is completely separate, so no, there is no story contradictions.
Wish we had more action, it was just done really well, and I want to see more of it, but oh well. My only complaint is that I wish it was longer.
FOR NEWCOMERS: This movie is a great way to introduce yourself to the transformers, you have some well-known voice actors with characters that are generally the same across the transformers universe, and you can come out of this movie having enjoyed a piece of transformers media without feeling like you have to google every character to understand the movie, or be confused at some fans-only reference. You can leave your transformers experience with this movie or go and find other pieces of transformer's media if you enjoyed it and want to understand more.
FOR LONG-TIME FANS: As a lifelong transformers junkie, I actually appreciated this movie a lot, it gave me a new perspective on the same characters I've known for my entire life, and I finally felt like there was a new direction going with this franchise I love. There's plenty of hidden references that longtime fans will immediately pick up on, which makes it a million times better. It feels great to have a brand-new cast for some transformers media. With all the recent transformers media taking reference from the G1 era, it's been nice to take a deep dive into an almost completely unexplored time period of the transformers, or at least pay attention to pre-war Cybertron in a new light. I love the new origin stories for the autobots and decepticons, I loved how we have some unique twists on old ideas, like the traditional theme of a Cybertronian caste system, however Orion is no longer the warehouse laborer/librarian he traditionally is presented as. It's a new spin on the same concepts and themes, and true fans should love it.
While nothing will ever beat transformers armada and cybertron for me, this was definitely an amazing watch and I am glad my family begrudgingly dragged me to see this, I went into this movie expecting some happy go-lucky kids movie, but I was very pleasantly surprised, and I've remembered why I love this franchise so much and hold these characters so close my heart.
Thank you, Hasbro, my prayers are at least somewhat answered.
Hope this helped.
