This movie is what got me into ROTTMNT in the first place. Like a lot of big TMNT fans, I had originally written off ROTTMNT the moment I realized how much they changed things. Leo's changes, in particular, made me very averse to the show because he was the character that I identified with the most. However, I came across a clip of this movie on YouTube one day by accident, and that changed EVERYTHING. The clip was only two or so minutes long, but it had me hooked. After that, I binged the entire series and the movie in less than a week.
While not every episode of the series was 100% Fantastic, the fresh dynamics and personalities shared between the turtles (and April! I absolutely love this April!) kept me going strong! And the MOVIE. My gosh, the MOVIE. It was incredible! The animation was simple but so beautiful, and the plot was amazing! Not to mention, all of the turtles have character arcs in it! That was always something that annoyed me about a lot of the other TMNT movies; they would only focus on one or two turtles, and the others would be given a backseat the entire time. While Leo did have a more prominent role in the plot, the writers didn't disregard the other turtles at all and gave everyone time to shine.
I may have had misgivings at the start, but ROTTMNT has quickly grown to be one of my favorite TMNT TV series (it's tied for first with 2012), and the movie has secured a spot as my top favorite TMNT movie. I know it's unlikely, but I sincerely hope we get another season with the charactersโif only so the ending doesn't feel so bittersweet due to the cancellation.
