FF7 is my favorite game of all time. I couldn't wait for the remake to come out. All the trailers are awesome and got me super hyped. The music is just amazing and the main characters look great. I had very high expectations and I must unfortunately admit there are things that disappoint. Side quests are kinda meaningless and "fetchy" (talk to someone, go kill or find something, go back and talk, you're done). You don't really get to explore all of midgar, there are new areas but there more just extended or elongated linear segments with enemies or obstacles along the way. Side quests can also get you to backtrack to previous areas (normally I'd into have a problem with backtracking) but it doesn't help that the side quest itself or the map layout isn't engaging. So far the only problem I have with the overall main story is the new "Arbiters of fate", they're kinda unnecessary. I just don't think the game is justified to be a midgar only. Midgar is just like the introduction. I love the idea of fleshing it out and adding more life but I don't think it was executed as well as It could have been and as well as we expect. As for the battle system I don't have a problem with it at all. I like it. I just wish there were more shortcut slots and sometimes the camera can be annoying. Oh, and teammate AI needs work. Boss fights are pretty dang good and engaging. Graphics are amazing yet very disappointing. You notice graphics start to suck in the slums areas on doors, walls, and the ground. Some of the backdrops could be better as well. But damn the character model graphics are amazing. Especially clouds sword on his back, the detail and light reflecting off of it. I notice it's only the slums areas where graphics let down. The graphics and environment on the streets of the plate were awesome. THE MUSIC IS THE ONE THING DONE 100 PERCENT RIGHT! All in all the game could've been waaay better with side quests, map design, and the bipolar graphics. I'm sure I'm forgetting things as I write this. Despite all the let downs and wrong moves I'm still gonna Platinum this game and remain hopeful and optimistic that square will try to fix everything and decide to do better.
