SPOILERS BELOW: I completely disagree with a lot of the negativity thrown at Gquuuuuuux. I'm an older fan of the franchise. I loved Gquuuuuuux, and Amate and Nyan were important. The throwbacks and nostaliga were great but the focus was in fact on Amate and Nyan. This anime is about war, freedom, the greedy desire for power and selfishness that almost leads to another bigger war, the scars of war veterans and refugees, and that trying to change destiny means nothing- it didnt matter who won the war, niether side did anything with victory but create more problems. The kira-kira/Gundam was a symbol of freedom for Nyan and Amate in this Gundam show. Amate is tired of her life and wants the freedom to go and do what she wants. "I want to be a jellyfish... What? You always told me I could be whatever I wanted to be...". On the other side, and my favorite character, Nyan, may have not been involved as a soldier in the One Year War but she was a war refugee. When she fights the Doms, what do they say to her? "Not that you would know a thing about the battlefield!"- and they proceed to brutally beat her. They are wrong! Nyan was involved in the war as much as anyone. She was beaten, discriminated against because of her status, and she had no home and family. When she's scathing in pain from the battle, she remembers all the times she had already experienced this before from the war and others even after the war! She finds the resolve to fight back with the Gundam. The Gundam and the Kira Kira help her to fight back finally in life against the abuse- fighting back means freedom to her. That episode is so special, and so many more episodes are special including Sugai's and Amate's encounter with Lalah on Earth and realizing that Earth was just as corrupt and as freeless as the space colonies were. This anime was great and I encourage the Eva creators to continue! Just longer please! :)
