This is one of the first movies Iโve walked out on in a long time (regretfully, I did stay for almost the entire thing and that is why I feel I can leave this review). The plot was as deep as a childโs swimming pool. The only redeeming quality was Adam Scott and Michael Epps (short-lived in this one). I hope this doesnโt damage their careers.
Character design was pretty good and I thought they casted the female roles well to match with the comic characters. Mary Parkerโs (played by Emma Roberts) contraction scene was horrendous, which was rough because Iโve seen her in other movies and had higher expectations. The villian Ezekiel (played by Tahar Rahim) was difficult to take seriously in almost every scene. However, I honestly donโt think anyone can blame the actors for this movie, with this many holes in the plot, lack of quality humor, and seemingly forceful dialogue that came across as emotionless with no real impact, I am going to say that the director S.J. Clarkson is to blame. The whole flow of the movie was off and lacking. One thing that did stick out to me was how many company logos they could fit in this film. I havenโt seen that much brand pushing in a long time. Marvel really let down the audience by putting their name on it. Can anyone in the industry please produce a more original superheroine rather than regurgitating the same concepts from well-known superheroes? Still waiting for that. At this point it just feels like Marvel is stealing money out of everyoneโs wallet to put out unoriginal content.
I do want to leave on a positive note, although the movie is utter garbage. It is a start in the right direction to get more female superhero role models on the big screen for little girls to look up to.
