Turn off your 21st century sensitivities and go back in time to appreciate this heart-rending Christmas classic. A western Christmas, with cowboys turned bank robbers and a posse led by a good-guy sheriff. John Wayne is just John Wayne. Pedro Fuerte (Armendariz) goes between Pedro and Pete, and you need to overlook what might seem to be a stereotype of the Mexican caballero, but his character is actually respected. And Harry Carey, Jr. creates a character that we empathize with. This is a film to watch every Christmas, and a few other times in the year.
