I have thoroughly enjoyed this show so far, the actress playing Anne is superb. You can see the calculation, brains, courage, stubbornness, heartache, and fear in the portrayal- all things Anne must have felt as she watched her life slip out of her control.
Personally, I donโt care if the actress is purple. If she can nail the part, who cares? No one is watching this SHOW to learn history, most gravitate to it because they enjoy Tudor history. Meaning, we are all aware that Anne was white in real life. The fact that people have a problem with a black actress wanting to portray one of the strongest female historical figures of that time shows how little some have progressed. It is a snapshot of Anneโs life and one that allows an actress a full scope and range to display depth in her art. The hate is mind boggling. Did those that left the one star reviews and complained about the actressโs race even watch the show or did they just show up for racial trolling? Itโs a fair question.
If people are going to get upset about the portrayal of a historical Anne (and time period), there are many other television shows and movies that butcher Tudor history, but those arenโt mentioned because the actresses are white. Grow up and enjoy people enjoying history! Iโd like to think that the real Anne Boleyn (who was fairly progressive and more philanthropic than most people think) would be thrilled that people of all cultures and backgrounds know of her and value her enough to create as many renditions as possible. Her ego probably loves it too.
If you donโt like the idea of it, move on, donโt watch, and for heaven sakes donโt show your racism, bigotry, and ignorance quite so much. The rest of us lose brain cells sifting through your vitriol.
