***Slight Spoilers*** But there is not much of a movie to spoil is there?
An average to slightly above average Hollywood movie and a below average origins movie. I have a few problems with this film. It fails to give any kind of sound logical explanation as to how and why Snake Eyes is such a competent fighter. Yes we know he has been in the underground fight club for years but that doesn't explain why he is able to fight like a ninja at the level that he is and do all the kinds of insane stunts and manoeuvres. It makes him seem like just another generic overpowered Mary-Sue. Storm Shadow was raised in the Ninja clan and trained by them his whole life. Of course he would be an elite Ninja warrior and know how to wield a Katana. Snake Eyes? No. Not at all. Yet I'm somehow supposed to believe that this noob and outsider can fight at the same level as a fully trained elite ninja?
And the writers of this movie must think the audience are complete fools to believe that some outsider can be invited into an ancient clan, then for selfish reasons steal their most sacred supernatural possession, run off with it and deliver it to the hands of their enemy, which subsequently results in the immediate attack of their community, with dozens of dead including the close death of their leader, and just gets off the hook with virtually no punishment, but instead a reward of some sleek black suit and helmet.
The movie fails to explain how Snake Eyes got his skills and abilities. It fails to even make any reference to the fact that he is mute in the later films. And it also gives us no logical reason to believe that the ninja clan that Snake Eyes betrayed and nearly caused the destruction of wouldn't want his head on a pike for his treachery.
This is a mediocre film at best. If you don't watch it you won't miss out on anything special.
