Some are inborn great but greatness is thrown on some people. Gandhi was the person is second category. As an Indian and well versed in Indian history, I must say that this film is a forceful effort of making his image larger than life, to portray him as a MAHATMA or great soul, which in reality he was not. The film is based on lots of fancied ideas for presenting so called greatness of Gandhi but if anyone goes through true history of Indian freedom struggle researched by Indian as well as British historians, they can find the reality of this personality and how he and NEHRU used to run their tyranny and dictatorship in Indian congress and never fought a real struggle against BRITISH. The film is mostly based on false facts, information and planned exaggeration of facts. The intensely dark negative side of his character is totally absent here.
This movie also not includes Gandhi's role in partition of India and his immense support for Pakistan after 1947. The film not includes his deteriorated relationship with most of the true freedom fighters like Netaji Subhash Bose, Bhagat Singh, Dr Ambedkar etc. Subhash Chandra Bose, who was the actual liberator of India and whole Asia, had deteriorated relationship with Gandhi. However, later on during 1947, Gandhi realized his mistakes and wanted Subhash back in India.
As a movie, it is good but from viewpoint of authenticity, actuality, real history and truth this movie is utterly rubbish. Ben Kinglsey is awful in this movie and it is his best performance ever.
