Butchered just about everything. Casting, story, budget. I don't mind race-bending characters but when just about everything has changed it starts to be problematic. What has changed? The race, sex, build of characters. Entire storylines of episodes have been drastically altered which has taken away many aspects of the poetic nature of the anime. It's also obvious that this show had strong budget restrictions shown by the main character's ships not having guns.
Another gripe I have is how most of many episode scenes seem out of place. One example of this is the placement of Spike's flashbacks. The very first episode springs them on us out of nowhere while he is conversing with a female character. In my opinion this fell dead on its face. Everyone but Jet feels one-dimensional so when these scenes are introduced there isn't any attraction to an emotional response.
I don't mean to be dramatic, but this show is a disaster. This is less of an adaptation, and more of a Netflix narrative.
