The season (season 1) was interesting enough that I wish I would have read the books. However, the season was disappointing enough that I kind of just want to ONLY read the books. My issue with this show is that I can tell Iโm missing something.
For example, the love story between Rand and Egwene felt fake. It started with her ignoring him and then them having sex. Then, they argued majority of the show because they had different views on what they should be doing with their lives. At every turn, it was like she went against Rand and then they literally kiss andโฆ thatโs it? Im not seeing the epic love story they were trying to make here. So when they made it seem like the only reason Rand overcame the Dark One is because of his love for the real her, it felt very forced and therefore anticlimactic. I literally rolled my eyes at that scene. Also, at the very end they made it seems like Perrin was in love with her. In fact, Nynaeve said she was tired of seeing them fight over Egwene like she was something to win but I literally never seen then fight over her once so where did that come from?
Another exampleโฆ why was the ogeir there? Apparently he could guide them through the Waygate by reading some stone, but why? Seemed like they just asked him to come along but whatโs his significance? Is he significant or was he comedic relief? I mean they jumped over parts and jumped into others so abruptly that you have to seriously read between the lines to figure some things out.
They relationship between Siuan and Moiraine? How did that happen and what exactly was this plan that no one could know about? Why did Moiraine not want to be at that castle so much that she would rather be exiled from the tower practically for forever?
What was with the peddler at the end? Padan Fainโฆ so he worked for the dark one this whole time. Is that it? What exactly was in the box he grabbed?
I also would have loved to see the development of their powers as much as the development of their characters. Perrin has some connection to wolves and I would have loved to see him explore that more. Nynaeve and Egwene were both wisdoms (Egwene wisdom in training) and they should have use that skill more than twice. They also should have realized that a snarling, screaming sound is never good and at the very least should be a warning. Was that explored more in the books? Matt had darkness in him blah blah blah but he also had goodness in him. He did for his friends and even protected his sisters from his own parents at times. A little bit more of a battle between good and bad, light and dark, selflessness and selfishness would have been good too.
To sum up, the story wasnโt developed enough. Parts were missing and if Iโm missing something then my feelings and interpretations of the characters might not be very accurate which will affect how I view the entire show. I donโt want to misread scenes, misunderstand characters, and ultimately misjudge the show because someone didnโt do a great job at conveying the full story. This season could have easily be drawn out to 12+ episodes so those of us that havenโt read the books could understand whatโs really going on. Please think about that for season 2. โฎ๏ธ
