Really, a forgotten masterpiece with a plot so subtle and finely drawn that is approaches Shakespeare. I've been searching for a good copy for years.
Toshiro Goto also made another movie about bear hunting and they are easily confused. The other one can be found (but not easily) and is titled The Old Bear Hunter.
Goto's films were rather scarcely distributed in the U.S.
What a shame!
