This movie was disturbing on so many levels, and it really opened my eyes to how unhealthy and manipulative Elvisโs relationship with Priscilla truly was. Itโs shocking how someone so idolized could treat another person this way โ the control, the grooming, and the emotional manipulation were hard to watch. He essentially shaped a young girl into his โideal wife,โ which is deeply unsettling when you think about how young she was and how much power he had.
Sofia Coppola did a brilliant job showing Priscillaโs experience from her own perspective โ quiet, isolated, and suffocating. You can feel how her identity was erased in the shadow of Elvisโs fame. The film doesnโt glorify him; it exposes the painful reality behind the glamour, and I appreciate that honesty.
Itโs a story that leaves you uncomfortable, but it should. Itโs a reminder of how easily control and abuse can hide behind charm and celebrity. I honestly canโt understand how anyone could still romanticize that relationship after seeing this.
