This is possibly the best book adaption Iโve ever seen. Iโm a huge fan of the Grishaverse books and I was concerned how the show would be, but now I see there was nothing to worry about!
Iโve rarely (if ever) seen an Asian lead in a fantasy young-adult series, so as someone whoโs Asian, seeing Jessie Mei Li play Alina Starkov made me so happy. People can say what they want about Alina, but she really does feels like a very realistic character and reminds me of myself.
Of course I wasnโt expecting the showโs plot to be a carbon copy of the books, but I admire the unique turns that the show took. Like Malโs character and the crowsโ Little Palace heist. A lot of book fans including myself were worried how the show might change details from the book, but Iโm pleasantly surprised and pleased with how it went.
The casting was perfect, the actors all embodied their characters perfectly. Thatโs the tweet. I donโt have a single bad thing to say about the cast.
One thing I will mention is that the show uses a lot of terms from the books (merzost, otkazatโsya, etc) and sometimes doesnโt explain them very much, which could be a bit confusing to fans of the show who havenโt read the books. However I watched the show with a friend who had never read the books and we both adored it! So the use of terms isnโt a very big deal, just something to keep in mind I suppose.
If youโre looking for a show (or book series) to binge, this is definitely it. Crossing my fingers for a season 2!!
