First of all, there are points that we're going to take into consideration: 1) this book was made around the time of the great depression, so around 1930. 2) this book has a very authentic and realistic theme that may not be suitable for some people. 3) this is a novella which means it's short and doesn't take long to read.
It's important to take these points into consideration because this book was made during a time where racism was a very prevalent issue and crimes wouldn't have been taken as extremely as today. The strong and offensive language also shows the time of this book which also may not be suitable for many.
Out of the few classic works of literature I have read so far, this once by far is the most captivating and authentic. It's not too old to the point of being irrelevant, yet, not too new that we're already immersed within the time period of it's making.
This book really does bring light to modern-day issues that wouldn't have been dealt with back then, such as being disabled (physically or mentally), racism, etc.
Overall, this was a good read. It's not my favorite book, but it's something I'm able to understand and many people would be able to understand as well which shows how well this book as able to bring it's point across.
