Harry Bosch is a loner cop. Heโs brilliant at what he does, but itโs his ruthless nature that makes him likeable by the readers, but not so much by the cops in his precinct.
Set in the 1990โs, where pagers were still a thing, Bosch investigates the murder of Vietnam tunnel rat Billy Meadows, who was friends with Bosch during the war.
Police rule it out as a suicide, but Bosch finds somethingโs wrong and works on a case, that leaves him wondering who the murderer is. As Internal Affairs suspect him, and as Bosch grows closer to FBI agent Eleanor Wish, he is on the mission to uncover the web of deceit, and bring justice to a man Bosch believes heโs let down before.
As Michael Connelyโs first novel, I give it the full five stars, though there are flaws that I find.
The writing is a little plain at times, and Bosch is a little too rude. I know thatโs who he is, but I find that heโs shouting at people who havenโt done anything to him. But it is a joy to see him outsmart the two IA detectives, who are tailing him.
All in all, Black Echo is a joy to read and is a great book to star with in the Harry Bosch series
