Minor Spoilers Ahead.
Big fan of original matrix movies. I thought I had an open mind going in maybe you will disagree once you read this.
The movie is not bad. The story begins very promisingly. Makes you question reality once again. Lots of psychological drama, reflecting on prescription drug use, suicidal thoughts, the doubt of delivering again after your first success, doubts about whether you missed a connection in your relationships. These themes are relatable and fresh to the matrix universe.
The action scenes are not as good as the original. I don't know if the choreographer wasn't as good of they weren't planned the same but you can feel the difference. The original trilogy felt like if you were in the matrix you were in danger bc you have to run and you can't beat the agents unless you are "the one". Resurrections they only slow the characters down, you rarely feel like even minor characters lives are in danger.
Even with bad action the movie is watchable until you start noticing the movies' real issue is consistency. Neo is supposed to be one of a kind, an anomaly that is the byproduct of the flawed design of the matrix. This movie goes back on that and not only makes Trinity stronger than Neo it invalidates several other characters. The oracle? Wrong. The architect? He knows what Neo is but doesn't understand Trinity? Meanwhile Trinity is so strong she is just Thanos snapping the main antagonist around when Neo was physically incapable of causing him harm. There are multiple other instances of plot holes and continuity errors I'm sure others have reviewed.
An even worse job is done on Agent Smith. The reason given for him existing and his motivations throughout the movie are one of the worst forms of deus ex machina in modern film. His character is completely created to move along a plot that by design writes itself into a corner.
There are some LGBTQ/feminist themes that seem to be arbitrarily inserted and as with many other movies that have tried this they fall flat and don't really add much beyond more disappointment.
So all in all you might find it entertaining but whether you are a fan of the original movies or a confused zoomer watching matrix for the first time, my guess is that this leaves something to be desired.
