It misses the mark about what made the poem great, fails to really go anywhere in my opinion barely having a plot or message. Gawain and the Green Knight is my favorite bit of Arthurian fiction, I loved the poem and studied in a class on Arthurian fiction taught by a professor who loved Arthurian fiction and this movie which I’ve been so excited for for a year fails to come close. The visuals are beautiful, and I think Dev Patel could have been a compelling Gawain but this fails twice, as an adaptation and an original story. Also anyone watching it for homoeroticism, this is less queer then the original poem and the (spoiler) gay kiss is not returned by Gawain and immediately followed by him saying “unhand me” very upset to the lord who kisses him.
