I had been wanting to watch this documentary, but I was waiting to hear the results for my friend with esophageal cancer who went through the hard core radiation and chemo as Val Kilmer. My friend got good results this week so I felt I was brave enough to watch. But after watching I realized there was nothing to be afraid of. Val’s life story is beautiful, including the challenges he’s faced since his cancer treatment. As he said, essentially (but better than my recall attempt here), the disease allowed him to miss out on a lot of projects he would not have benefited from, had he participated.
His sobbing after the passing of his mother while going through her turquoise, Native American styled jewelry was so touching, I had to pause to cry. My mom passed away 8 weeks ago and I have played that exact scene- the rawness of holding one’s mother’s treasured belongings after their transition, it’s hard to express the poignancy of that experience. Val’s intimate footage was beautiful. And I found the fact that his Swedish mother donned herself in southwestern American jewelry, to be dear.
I am so inspired and appreciative to this brilliant, caring, heart full gentleman. Thank you for bestowing so much magic into the universe, Val!
