This was a phenomenal series.
I have to say that I almost never make it through the entirety of a series but this was just perfect, I've never seen anything like it. Not only was the setting and the design some of the greatest art I have seen in any movie or series ever, but the actors and actresses were just mind blowing. A special mention has to go to both the Beth actresses, the emotional intensity and pure mind-blowing genius that they each brought to the character was absolutely amazing.
The balance between the rigidity of the chess and the intensity of drama are so perfectly intertwined here, I know there are complaints about a bit of a lack of actual chess techniques e.t.c, but I think you have to remember this is still a movie and not a documentary and it is already extremely informative to any beginners out there in just the perfect amount.
Honestly, a few months later and multiple re-watchings in I am still just in absolute shock and awe; I cannot tell you how many people have received a recommendation for this from me. I think I'll probably still be in total amazement at this series in 10 or 20 years time (as long as it isn't let down by an additional season).
Beautiful, intense and truly a work of art.
