OK I don't understand some of the reviews here. The show got a bit more Avatar or Voltron (latest one) flavour mixed in with Superman, but... that's it. The difference is in tone, not quality IMO.
The main beats are here: Clark Kent is a genuine guy, a good person who is out there to help ppl. All of his classic traits are here. He's not 100% Superman yet, he's more... Superman in training. He's still learning about his origins. And that's OK. It just shifted the beats a bit. Jimmy, well he's competent as well (look at the latest episode). He is perceptive and caring, and is actually right about most of the conspiracies he's promoting! Lois as well, but she also has FLAWS. Again latest two episodes (as of August 10th), have given us episodes in which she is obviously in the wrong. From what I gather the characters are like... 22ish? Something like that. Still unsure where they belong, they are interns, so it's natural that the Superman mythos is still being established. The transformation sequences aren't important? Don't know why they were included, but... it just didn't bother me as it did some people?
Finally there are critiques: Slade Willson's character is not enjoyable to me- in fact I DIDN'T know who it was until I googled him.
But the show has heart, and is mostly faithful to the characters. Clark Kent is still Clark, his parents are still the Martha and Jonathan you know and remember, but keep in mind that this is Superman at the very start, a level 1, and he'll fumble. And that's ok.
