As a teenager living in 2020, I am so disappointed with the remake. The first 15-20 minutes were great, and I started to feel like the movie would live up to its potential. Unfortunately, that was not the case.
*SPOILERS AHEAD*
When Lily was starting to get involved with her coven, that entire part was so rushed! Like, it didn't even include much dialogue or backstories of the other girls. They didn't even explain their powers thoroughly! Where is all this magic coming from?! Though, I am impressed with the diversity of characters here. Especially involving the LGBTQ+ aspects.
Timmy was supposed to play a Chris-like figure, I suppose? I liked the idea that the girls were using Timmy to better himself, but he really didn't have the character arch that he so deserved. Especially with the fact that he hooked up with Isaiah. That plot went absolutely nowhere.
I also wanted more of an explanation about Adam. Including his relationship with Lily's mom (did he only start dating her because he knew Lily had powers? Or did he find out later?), as well as his three sons. They are all virtually useless and have no connection to the storyline whatsoever. Also, I would like an explanation of what Adam is, and why he owns a cult??? His entire plot was confusing, and his battle at the end is pitiful.
My final issue is that we really don't get to connect much with Lily. While yes, she is the main character, there are so many details being thrown around that we don't even get a chance to really focus on her. Especially with the fact that Nancy is her mother??? I understand it's called Legacy for a reason, but that should have been definitely established in the movie before the plot started to take off. Like, does this also mean that Chris is her father (though, the timeline wouldn't really make sense)? I guess they were trying to leave the possibility open for another movie?
In conclusion, this movie sucks. I like to think I am well educated on older movies as a modern-day teenager, therefore I beg producers to leave older movies alone and to prevent remaking them. There were so many unopened doors that this movie should have explored, and I am disappointed.
