What a monumental Meh of a movie that could have been a home run. The ingredients for the dish are all there: Tiffany Haddish is sassy and saucy; Oscar Isaacson is damaged and broody and Ty Sheridan has enough young angst for us all. So why didn't it make it? Was it the harsh cuts to Abu Ghraib ? I get the movie wants to be about redemption, suffering, paying for sins, atoning and such but I couldn't tell if it wanted to be a movie the schools us in the art of gambling with cards or an indictment on the Bush-Era Iraq war. Either way, it needed SOMETHING to happen every so often. Anything. Not a waste of time because of great performances, but really could have been so much better.
