Shirley Ross, Books to Give Books to Love

This adaptation is brilliantly done, although I did not come to that conclusion easily. I have been a longtime fan of Suchet’s Poirot series, and the first several seasons are much lighter fare. When I saw this adaptation the first time, I disliked it intensely, feeling it is much too dark. As I have watched the later seasons again now, and as I now too am heading in to my eighth decade.....I recognize the skillful interpretation of advancing age, its limitations, and its forced reckoning of our lifelong moral decisions. Now having watched this adaptation again, I see and appreciate the moral crisis which nearly brings Poirot to his knees. I am so glad I gave it a second chance - it feels quite profound at the end. Excellent performances from a superb cast, with Suchet reaching a pinnacle with the character in this work.
