If a film has the capacity to hold your attention for its duration, it's a good film. I'm not focusing here on liking or disliking this movie as that is a matter of personal opinion. However, there can be no denial May December succeeds on the strength of its superb casting. The subtleties employed by Julianne Moore as she skirts the edges of her character's mental illness are sublime. Without question, Gracie is a damaged being. The tragedy of her illness is the extrapolation of depression to the other members of her immediate and ex-family. Similarly, with respect to Natalie Portman, we are exposed to the steady crawl of deceit at the forefront of Elizabeth's method-acting research for her upcoming role as Gracie with its no-holds barred approach. Of course, the truly victimized one here is Joe, tormented by his attempt to balance proper fatherhood including the waning support for his abuser against the loss of his youth. Like it or not, the movie is powerful.

From the perspective of making a movie, the quality and capabilities of the director are evident. However, what sinks this film is the inaccurate content. Allowing a fabrication such as this will incite future unrest and ignite further antisemitism. It amazes me how Palestinians fail to see the damage done by their leadership. The monsters known as Hamas (can't call them animals since animals care for their young) who committed atrocities beyond words on October 7th are the source of misery for Palestinians. The shocking quantity of funds (billions) they have been provided through the years were never passed down to the people needing them. Rather, the money was wasted on weapons, rockets, etc. and for the benefit of the Hamas leadership all of whom vacated the Gaza to live in cushy condominiums in Qatar. Think, how many Jewish suicide bombers have there been? Zero! Fact is, Israelis and Jews care about people. Israel and Genocide? Ha!! Complete joke. What country committing genocide warns people in advance of their plans? Hamas blocks its own people from saving themselves and sets up their terror command posts in regions like hospitals. Israel was never after the citizens. Their goal is to root out the savage murderers and terrorists. However, Hamas uses their people as shields for their own protection. Palestinians were turned away from their neighboring Arab countries. They want nothing to do with terrorists like Hamas, Hezbollah and the like. These countries are only too happy to have everyone hate the Jews because it takes the pressure off of them to accept Palestinians. If Jews and Israelis were so horrible why would Arabic countries like Egypt, Jordan and now the Emirates invite tourism from Israel? Hamas doesn't want any success in negotiations for peace as they only wish for the complete annihilation of Israel. Perhaps if the slogan was "Free Palestine from Hamas" there could be a sliver of hope in the Middle East. But the film is based on lies because it is not the Israeli or Jewish way. I'm disgusted by it!

Terrible acting! Amateur hour. Couldn't make it past the first episode. Also, the sound track is inappropriate at times... whimsical, for such a serious undertaking. To be fair it may have improved but really, you can't start weak and expect people to hang on and that 'it will get better'.

I almost didn't watch this film because, with the glut of movies out there to choose from and with so many services and options, I had resorted to heeding the opinion of "professional" reviewers to whittle down my selection process. However, my instincts guided me this time to click "PLAY". Had I not, I would have missed the opportunity to see a thoroughly engrossing study of a tortured soul as magnificently portrayed by Sandra Bullock. Moments of questionable choices in the script set aside, this was still an excellent vehicle for Bullock to pull out all the stops and allow us to see her dramatic acting chops at their finest. With a truly talented cast as support, this picture will firmly hold your attention from outset until its unexpected conclusion. Avoid other opinions on this one. It's worth it!
