One of the few movies I personally consider to be perfect, The Shining is a chilling and suspenseful thriller rife with terror and atmospheric moments, but also rife with ambiguity. While the book clearly states that supernatural forces are at play here and are the reason for Jack's descent into madness, the movie is more ambiguous, never clearly stating whether Jack is talking to himself or to ghosts. Is it a films about ghosts tormenting a man's mind or one of a man driven insane by isolation, constant work, and the thought of abusing his son?
