The movie showcases the perception that Western countries and their directors have towards India and it's people. The main theme of the movie revolves around how the caste system is rampant in India and how the poor can only survive with bribery and murder. It's a poor attempt by an American director to describe a country which he obviously does not understand. The movie caters to those people in developed countries who believe in the perfection and high handedness of their own system and practices. Most of the scenes in the movie are completely illogical and unrealistic. Don't be tricked by the description, there is no wit or smartness displayed by the main character anywhere in the movie.
