First of all, if you come to watch this for nostalgia, or to see "He Man", you will see the first season kind of like skim milk. Yeah it's kinda there, but it's not really all there. I think that is why Kevin Smith didn't have the heart to call it He Man and the Masters of the Universe: Revelation. There were moments that felt like this show was going to take the old story line to new heights and blow your mind... and then the writers pulled the whole "sweep the leg" and gutted that feeling. I love the animation. I, like many others, loved the voice acting (except Merman). I even loved the insight into the strengths of others that has always been a part of the Masters of the Universe storyline. I didn't love the weak attempts at the "gotcha" moments. I wasn't thrilled with the 180 change in Teela's character that was diametrically different from everything that she would have actually done in the situations she found herself in. And I loathed the feeble and simplistic attempt at trying to use shock value to push the story forward. Kevin Smith claimed to be a fan boy of the original series. Over and over, he said that he was going to create a show for the fans by a fan. And (spoiler, but not really at this point) I can see some of the influence of this sentiment, but it all falls flat when the "Most powerful man in the universe" is killed off...twice...in the same season while others seem to evade even the slightest injury without fail (except one character who I will skip over to avoid spoiling). My overall takeaway from the show, it's more about the writers than the actual show. Just my opinion though. If you loved it, I'm glad someone did. If you didn't, it will probably be a one and done and move on. Just please, don't let Smith handle any other reboots. I can't handle another bait and switch with my childhood memories.
