I thought the movie was realistic and it was very sad. It was about people who pretend to be lavishly rich without any money problems yet they are selling a painting, keeping lovers, doctors, and trying to ruin the happiness of others. The matriarch with her supers-stitions hosted a party of which there were 13 guests. That's BAD LUCK, therefore she selected the best looking made that she thought could blend in the best of which was the lead maid/housekeeper. She begged her and she also gave her a garment to wear, had her hair done, and gave her a pep talk. Basically, she was a seat filler. She could have gotten her hair stylist to do it but he declined stating he had nothing to wear. His outfit was hideous and unrealistic that he didn't have on something more "FAB" that would have been okay but that wouldn't have been the theme of the story now would it? So the film actually makes fun of how people who are social climbers try to hold others down. They drink too much but it's not okay for others to drink very much. They see the flaws of everyone except themselves. The matriach and patriarch both have lovers but don't want the housekeeper to have anyone. The plan backfires, their art dealer falls in love with the maid. The maid told him she was a maid and he laughed it off. However, the martriarch got jealous of her and was trying to play mind games and we never really know what she said to the love interest of the housekeeper but it was enough to make him ghost her. So this one has no happy ending and we can feel the tension when she walks in the room to serve tea and her once true love was sitting in the room with the Matriarch and the housekeeper had to bring in tea. It was a long scene that went by fast but I can still feel it. I think this film was very good, well written, and it had a different twist open ended. The Housekeeper had more class than all of those losers. The bank was about to foreclose if they hadn't sold the painting. But I think if you love stories, film, or great costumers, makeup, furniture, you will LOVE this movie. It was a hero's journey. So what she didn't get the guy but she learned more about herself. She looked like she was about reinvent herself and she grew mentally. She didn't say anything to the lady of the house, she took off her maid's outfit left it on the bed. She walked out with a cute outfit on and held her head up high. She was a DIVA! She seemed like she got a taste of being rich and she wanted it. Hopefully those earrings were real she can cash them in and get paid. BUT it was just a movie. But I say...I enjoyed it. BRAVO!!!
