Alright alright alright, I will focus on saying what everyone else is not saying. The reviews are all pretty solid, and as a big fan myself I agree with what people are saying. As the horror genre evolves, keeping kills scary fresh is a challenge that the scream series nails every single time. A movie like this is all about the action and keeping the audience involved, and on their toes. The script addressed theories almost immediately after I was coming up with them, which I appreciate. The core 4 casting and character development was spot on, with the overall vibe being more authentic and less campy than the previous films. The relationship between Sam and Tara is *chefs kiss*. Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera are forces to be reckoned with in the industry, and I am looking forward to more of their projects. The killer reveal at the end was a stretch, saved by the action of the main heroes. A major directional error was to have the “surprise” killer flip their personality as much as they did at the end. When a killer goes off the rails like that it’s because a) casting was a mistake, or b) they forgo motive and wanted to showcase an actual psycho. Idk if you’re following on that, but I’m saying that the acting choices made by the killers at the end were bad. Don’t get me wrong, I love a psycho killer as much as the last guy, but you gotta lean into that play and focus less on the reasoning behind the killers motives if you’re gonna go there.Theres a reason that the first scream movie had such an impact, and that’s because Skeet Ulrich absolutely nailed it as Billy. Emma Roberts is number 2 on my list of well-executed scream villains. The focus of scream 6 was more on main character development than villain arc, which was the right call for the franchise. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter who the killer is- the franchise is the universe playing a long con joke on the main characters. Choose your friends wisely. As a movie buff I appreciated the overall pace and how well done the cinematography was.The jump scares were quick and sharp, and the kills shocking and elevated. You’ll definitely want to experience this in theaters. This generation of slasher film makers are leaning into the theater environment, so it’s not an experience you’ll want to miss out on.

Waiting for the Emmy nominations. Set design itself is beautiful and intriguing. Storyline is simple, but the character development is where it’s at; an investigation into the human psyche, and how far you would go to survive. The characters are well flawed and their endings are poetic, and sometimes… ironic. Very unsettling at first, with some very graphic scenes- but they are scattered about. You get taken on a ride instead of a stressful rollercoaster. Totally binge-worthy watch- you can watch it in 2 days.

New and different for James Wan. He really tested the boundaries while also paying homage to old school classics. Excellent camera work, set design was superb, and whoever was in charge of making the house models for those shots is very talented. Definitely recommend watching to stay updated on horror movie evolution, doesn’t matter if you see it in a theater or not- sound effects and jump scares were expected and classic. Graphics and CGI could use improvements, but I guess that’s what comes with a new production company for Wan.
