All the reviews seem to center on the art imitations life, father-son duo of Ron Lowe and son John Owen Lowe. And I can undesrstand why… it works on such a breezy, quirky level and Lowe jr. is to the 2020’s with his affable charming nerd what Lowe Sr’s affable charming bad boy was to the 1980’s. HOWEVER this show works because of the presence and timing of lynchpin Sian Clifford. She makes it all work. She’s like the sun and everything else depends on and feeds off of her. Every charachter shines a little brighter when she’s there and fortunately the writers seem to understand this and give her some grear material. Little bits of stand up that should but don’t ruin the pace of the show. ( the no one gets my sense of humor bit was inspired ) It’s a really nice show. Feel good. Totally bingsble and free of angst.

I’ll never understand the hysteria ascribed to ‘swear words’ . they are WORDS. A collection of letters. They have no more power than you choose to give them. I adore a good explcative.. in good writing. Here it was clumsy and jarring. The function was to make the audience see that people with special needs aren’t just sweet and childlike… they’re just like you and me! It was just lazy writing and there are a lot of other tools the writers could have used to fully show complexity and dimension. That said…What a lovely and fun movie. All the feels!! . I have an autistic son and was hesitant to see this. Thought it might be patronizing. It wasn’t. At all. In fact a lot of the comments in these reviews are more patronizing and offensive than the movie. ( please don’t generalize about an entire group of diverse individuals .. “they don’t talk like that, “they don’t use that language…. You obviously haven’t met ALL of them, then) Kudos to the director for making an entertaining, interesting,fun film that deftly slid past what could have been formulaic syrup Woody Harrison is great in everything… shines here. 5 ⭐️
