Technically brilliant and visually good, but the core premise collapses under its own emotional weight. The multiverse concept is cool, yet the film ends with a message that feels uncomfortably regressive rather than profound.
My biggest issue is the final scene, when the mother tells her adult daughter,
“You are getting fat, you are getting old, I don’t care — I will always want to be here with you. Even if you have to see me as stupid, stubborn, whatever… because I am your mother.”
It’s framed as heartfelt, but it comes off as emotionally suffocating — a parent refusing to let go, disguising control as unconditional love. Instead of showing growth or mutual respect, it treats codependence like enlightenment. The result feels manipulative, preachy, and ultimately kind of cringe.
