Mistook the trailer as a K-Horror movie and gave it a go. Ended up being the first English dubbed live action series I've ever fallen in love with and my first ever Korean drama.
I understand from other reviews that the storyline diverges from the OG webtoon (which I will be reading soon), and will be reviewing the Netflix version exclusively here.
This show is addicting. I wasn't able to get into Game of Thrones or any of the other massively popular shows in recent years but this one I binged. And I haven't binged a series in years.
The cinematography has a very strong anime/manga influence. From the angles and the long silences between characters.
The pilot was very monotone to start and some things don't really translate to English perfectly, but between English Dub and Subs I was able to figure the occasional issue out.
The soundtrack was odd at times but it certainly didn't ruin it for me.
CGI and FX were pretty damn good imo. I know it wasn't flawless but it was certainly better than I had anticipated for a Netflix series with an appreciated amount of blood and gore to really sell the scenes. An apocalypse shouldn't look like a Kool-Aid party after all.
Aside from the previously mentioned issues. I love the characters and their stories. Certain things did seem to unusual to me, which I now know to be where they merged and altered some of the stories for run times and to better fit tv series story telling.
Give it a chance and you might just fall in love with it, too. It has a really good mix of action, horror, and characters. Usually a series or movie tends to prop itself up on one thing and lets the rest be a bit one dimensional. This series is satisfyingly a bit of everything with every episode and sucks you in.
Which I know, compared to the books is probably lacking but please keep in mind the limited information a TV show can give without just narrating the whole thing or doubling run times which leads to subjectively boring episodes of just character development.
