Honestly, skip my review and watch this freaking movie. It’s stellar.
Still here? Okay… As a die hard fan of the 1990 movie, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have always struggled for me to capture a similar theatrical altitude; not for the lack of trying, of course. Along side films like Barbie and Oppenheimer, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is not only a joy for casual movie-goers who seek a varied palette of movies (that don’t fall into the long arms of the Walt Disney Company) but also lives up to the quality that these silly, exciting, and daring “Ninja Turtles” deserve. For the love of movies, see this film. As an animated picture, or a cute (and sorta gross) coming of age story, or a series of artistically inclined action, this movie has exactly what it needs: heart, humor, and style. The Spider-Verse movies are no longer in a league of their own, and for a fraction of the budget, Seth Rogan and company composed a team of teenage turtles with contagious energy and chemistry. The Ninja Turtles have never felt more like brothers, or even TEENAGERS, until now. What they’ve done is more than impressive, it’s turtle power.
Blu-ray required, second viewing highly considered.
