As a religious social worker in a black community in Sacramento CA in the late 1960's, I find this to be a real story of a real family dealing with and being smothered by white racism. We all want our books and movies to have a happy ending, but it can only be happy when we face and combat white racism in our homes, schools, government and institutions.
Thank you to Angie Thomas for good hard research and inspired writing. I look forward to more from her mighty pen.
