I absolutely love this show. Watched it when it first came out, and still watch it now when I fold the washing. Characters are well drawn, writing is brilliant, and Hugh Laurie is sardonically divine. I absolutely adore him, and after watching him in British media for so many years, cannot believe he nailed House so brilliantly.
I wouldn't watch it with a nurse or doctor, because they do what they always do with medical dramas. The same as lawyers with legal dramas. Professionals watching dramas that are creative representations of those professions, make such people instantly humourless and critical of absolutely everything, as if it's not a TELEVISION SHOW, and they expect it to be super realistic - because we all know that a drama about a real hospital/law office would be so gripping to watch.... yawn!
Also noted how the woke brigade tears it up for being offensive, like Friends is "offensive", and "Seinfeld" is offensive, and "The Office" is offensive. You know, people who would be fun at dinner parties.
Other than that, enjoy it for what it is. I have had people I know who have struggled with opiod addiction suggest that it is very realistic in this respect. The lengths House goes to for his drugs, not to mention who he hurts, and the denial he is in, does appear to truthfully represent the character of an addict.
The show has a lot of depth, and complex character layering which is slowly revealed throughout all seasons. The moral quandries are excellent, as are the interactions between the characters. House and Wilson (AKA Holmes and Watson) are awesome. By the end, I believe the show is really about friendship, which is ironic since House is so allergic to people and social situations in general. Despite the mixed reviews on the finale, I believe they ended it brilliantly, giving the audience a choice to choose what they wanted to believe.
Seriously can't get better writing than this outside of Breaking Bad (which is also amazing for many of the same reasons).
Watch it. You won't regret it!
