If you want to play Pokemon or buy a Pokemon game as a gift, get any of the previous versions (Pokemon Sun/Moon, X/Y, etc.); you will get significantly more for significantly less. I have been a huge fan of Pokemon and have been playing since gen 3 and have been working on collecting one of every version. This is the first Pokemon game I have ever returned. The only thing going for this version is that it follows the Pokemon formula: you catch, travel, and battle with Pokemon. This version does little to improve or add onto that basic mechanic that is in every Pokemon game, and that which it does do, it does poorly and very awkwardly. Cons: - The storyline is boring and flat out antagonistic towards you at times. You as a player are treated as if you are not capable of doing anything on your own and are hand held through the most simple of tasks. - Less than half of existing Pokemon were put into the game; if you have any previous game, you will most likely not be able to even transfer or use them in this one. - The animations and character models look like they are from 2001. Many moves don't even have a Pokemon animation other than a static model that wiggles or rotates. - Online features are non-existent and those that are there are unusable. - The game is extremely short; it has less than half of the things to do in game than any of the older versions. Pros: - You can catch, travel, and battle with the few Pokemon in the game. I would strongly recommend not buying this game.
