I don’t know why this movie warrants such bad reviews. It is what it is, a totally preposterous action flick with great actors. I loved seeing still sexy and very fit Halle Berry back in action with Mark Wahlberg. Mark’s understated character didn’t disappoint against well cast and charismatic Halle Berry. The highly physical action scenes were executed with precision which is really what this flick is all about. As for the storyline, well who cares it was lots of fun. Frankly I was pleased to see a tongue in cheek thriller that my whole family could enjoy. Of course these shows don’t tend to get the great reviews in our jaded culture, but as for me I just chomped down my popcorn and enjoyed the show.

As a guy who plays just good enough golf to maintain a mediocre level of incompetence, I wasn’t really sure I wanted to bother watching old men like me swig and swing for nickels and dimes. Was I wrong? ‘Hey I thought, how bad can it be with Dennis Quaid as the staring attraction?’ But as good as Dennis Quaid always is, the real leader of the pack is Jay Hernandez who leads his Mexican buddies to reach high. Cheech Marin must also be mentioned for clever comic relief. This is the true story of a small gang of ‘’outcast’’ friends who gather in the 50s after the war with the intention to learn to play golf on the rugged bald headed Texas prairie. It becomes quickly apparent that if they want to up their game they must create their own crude course and putting green. As their skills improve they begin to dare to dream that they might be good enough to challenge the snotty ‘’green jacket’’ establishment for the state cup. The avoidance of cliches and contrived script is refreshing. Enough said. I think you’re going to luv this one…

What a great title for a sleazy movie! Aptly named this flick is touted as a drama/comedy… heavy on drama. The first thing I want to do after watching this cinematic exercise in moral decay and self-contempt was take a long shower. Not because it was that bad, but ironically because it brought out such a rare feeling of personal guilt for sitting through the whole damned thing and actually enjoying it. Be warned, there are few characters to cheer for in this family train wreck. Kathy Bates (Charlotte) always the star, doesn’t disappoint as the CEO of a powerful family company that pretty well brings out the worst in everyone. She is well paired by Alfre Woodward (Alice) who runs a modest restaurant with a religious sign on the wall suggesting ‘’a family should pray together.’’ The best part of the movie is when Bates character takes off in her El Dorado on an extended drunk to Texas with Alfre Woodward (Alice). There Alfre sits dry and sullen at a line dancing bar where her partner pounds tequila in order to bury her deep secret. Meanwhile the rest of the family are back home scheming for control of the company while taking every opportunity to cheat each other. This is my first Tyler Perry movie but I’m ashamed to say that it won’t be my last. No wonder he’s worth 1.4 Billion dollars. This is a slick way to get rich…

I agree totally with Maggie Eyre. Zack Efron was very well cast as an absurd self absorbed stereotype of a Hollywood icon. He plays well as Nicole Kidman’s love interest. Kidman proves she’s still got it as the sexy mother with panache and restraint. Her screen daughter played by Zoey King brings zany comedy that makes the movie a lot of fun. Kathy Bates is professional as always. My wife and I are old and love good clean romantic comedies and this one doesn’t disappoint.

I can’t believe I’m this old, 50 years was so long ago! But I remember, oh how I remember those boot camp days. The guys were such an odd mixture of loners, over-achievers, screw ups and oddballs. How I hated being wakend by a jerk hammering on a garbage can lid. But what bothered me most were the guys who got drummed out. These were ones I never would have bothered with in civvy life, but now painfully can’t forget. Are they ok? Jan Michal Vincent is great at showing himself to be the leader. One never knows whom it will be but his role is perfect as the hippy genius who acts against type by helping his whole platoon. The Vietnam War was so long ago but many of us will never forget that era.

I really liked this flick even if it kept me squirming. Passionate and inappropriate heavy breathing makes for an edgy romance. Sissy Spacek and Kevin Kline pull it off with panache, in a wonderful little Maryland fishing village where they both love sailing. Sissy is an international photo journalist and Kevin a married newspaper man. They parted ways when young then reconnected when Sissy came home on vacation after thirteen years, only to find that the love of her life was not available. John Kellogg was well cast as the father who tried to give warning. As sweet as this drama is Sissy and Kevin skillfully made me nervous through out. No doubt many viewers will be nostalgically reminded of the one that got away. See it!

The reviewer for Rotten Tomatoes just can’t see the light :) The movie is beautiful. I almost didn’t bother with it as I didn’t want to see another hackneyed violent war story. This movie is anything but… It is a wonderful romance set in impossible conditions. The snarling nazis were great even if a bit over the top. Perfect casting! Also the special effects felt very authentic. The bombing and shelling is so realistic I found myself trying to figure out how they did it. The plot is novel and the acting is first rate. See it!

Wonderful parody on the Maltese Falcon, in bad taste from beginning to end. The politically incorrect humour was a scream. I loved the scene in the bar where the Nazis started singing. This flick is filled with celebrities like Ann Margaret but my favourite is Peter Falk who stars in the movie with all the ease and sleaze that could only be mustered by the character of Columbo. If you like good old corn ball humour you’ll love this romp. See it!

I’m 82 years old succeeding far more than I deserve and failing much more than I could sometimes handle. But God never gave up on me even when I must have broken His heart. We live in cynical times today and movies like this are too often considered trite at best. Robert Duval was perfect in bringing sage advice to a young man that many will relate to. I liked the brave if restrained inclusion of the church. It’s an upper!
