Anna, the shooter wasn't a "whack-job." He was a troubled child, only 20 years old, bullied for years for being "different." Easy access to guns isn't the major problem here. It's ignoring the bullying that's going on in our elementary and high schools, in social media, in our neighborhoods, the sexual abuse of our children. No excuse for violence, but as you've heard for years now, "hurt people hurt people." We can lock our guns up, and this will all still happen until we start looking out for our children. Guns are simply a symptom of the anger the troubled and wounded child carries for serious parental abuse. Trump is a great example. Have you studied his past, what his relationship with his father was about? I've been working in prisons for now 30 years, first as a writing teacher, now as a chaplain. I hear the same stories over and over. It's heart-breaking. It's up to us to stop projecting our own pain on our children and begin to help them heal their wounds.
