I have to say that I did not like the book. The reason I don't like it is very subjective, though. When I got the book, I thought It was going to be an analysis of dictators, analysis of why and how they stay in power, basically a rundown of things I don't already know about these individuals. Unfortunately, it wasn't to be. It felt more like a rundown of all their sins and flaws(much of which I already know about in detail). We know these people are terrible, did you really need to give us a 400 page rundown of how terrible they were.
This is also a heavily biased book. This is strange because most authors I've read try to be as objective as they possibly can. This author, however, cared very little about even trying to seem objective in her analysis.
In conclusion, the book wasn't for me. I wanted an analysis about how these dictators manage to hold on to power, not some useless discussion about their virility and sexual lives. As I said though, this is a very subjective review. It's simply my own opinion after having read the book. If you are like me and are looking for a serious discussion of why and how these individuals were able to amass so much power, this book is not for you.
