Well versed in the law, but only for the purpose of dividing the tares from the wheat. Unfortunately for him, he doesn't decide which are which. Instead of building up the body of Christ, he chooses to insult his brethren and admonish them for what he believes is a sin. He adds to bible verses and chooses different translations which serve his purpose. Rather than quoting Paul's statement such as "in my weakness God is strong", he paints a picture that the christian must earn salvation by choosing to abstain. He repeats "sober-minded" verses again and again and says there is no moderate or spiritual value. Typical pharisee.
