I was a little hesitant to write a review so early but i have seen so many daft and unhelpful reviews on here so thought I’d have my say.
Ready Player One was one of the most imaginative titles I’ve ever read. Ernest writes about what he loves with pure passion. It makes it hard not to love what he loves. I was born in the 90’s but since reading RPO I found myself fantasising about 80’s pop culture and all things from said decade.
Since I found out that Ready Player Two was set to release I’d been a little nervous. How on earth does a sequel live up to a title like RPO? The answer. Quite easily!
****SPOILER ALERT****
Where RPO was an epic adventure title, RPT is more of a thriller. It gets dark and dirty. It’s all about the mind, quite literally, and Cline takes us deep into the darkest parts of our favourite characters minds in this race to survive! It’s a roller coaster of emotion that had me glued to every page.
Although I didn’t think there were many plot holes in RPO, RPT cleared up a few questions I’d had regarding some of the characters and their pasts. It made them seem more realistic and thus helped me understand them better.
I don’t want to say much more and risk giving away anything but I plan on reading this title a few more times before Xmas to get a better analysis of each stage of the story. First time through it left me with a bittersweet feeling. I think this was just down to the fact I was sad it was over so quickly and it concluded in such a way that makes it likely there won’t be a Ready Player Three.
If that’s the case I just want to take this time to thank Ernest for writing some of the most epic books I’ve ever read (I’m also a huge fan of Armada)!
For anyone who is a huge geek like me and loves all things Star Wars, Harry Potter, Back to the Future, Ghostbusters and all things retro and related to 80s pop culture please take the time to read this and the other novels written by Ernest Cline!
You will not be disappointed.
