The live action portrayal did an amazing job in depicting the original story of Mulan. Please, if you only watched the cartoon Mulan without reading the actual "Ballad of Mulan," do not write a bad review due to the omissions. Mushu the dragon and Captain Li Shang were excluded for the reason that they did not exist in the original storyline. I honestly thought Disney did an amazing job with the film as it is not only quite historically accurate, but also great with the overall main points. By the way, the Chinese actually disliked the idea of clumsy Mushu because it mocked the dragon that was supposed to symbolize auspicious powers. The story did not have the Huns invade as well, it was always supposed to be the Rourans. Even the 2009 live action Mulan from Hong Kong avoids copying the cartoon version, but rather a director's reimagination of the original. Again, read the real story, "The Ballad of Mulan," before watching either the 2009 or 2020 live action Mulan films.
