It’s infuriating to watch my childhood movies and shows be destroyed. Lee Jung-Jae and most of the supporting cast are not to be blamed, most of their characters could have been very well presented in a different story line and Lee’s acting is wonderful. Unfortunately this series just doesn’t follow the star wars history accurately and has some overwhelmingly predictable dialogue and story elements. There are some good scenes in the show, but the show itself is a huge disappointment already. I’m not sure why Disney continues on hiring extremely poor directors/writers for one of the most popular franchises on earth. Dave Filoni (involved with Star Wars for about 10 years before the Disney purchase) has been the only consistently good part of the new Disney series. Anything he is involved with has been wonderful.
It’s very confusing to see such a massive company like Disney fail at the very fundamentals of good writing. There are some complaints I’ve seen that are just plain childish (like fire in space even though it’s been in other star wars films) but the overwhelming majority agrees that the story is just flat out bad so far.
I really think Star Wars creative teams need to take a step back and look at what their audience ACTUALLY cares about. The stories they WANT to see. We implore writers to create new and exciting stories, but only when they can actually understand and make them good. If they can’t, just make cinematic versions of stories that already exist like Mara Jade, clone commandos or Knights of the old Republic.
Its REALLY frustrating to know I (and many avid star wars fans) could create a better Star Wars story then the people being paid thousands to do it.
